St. Vincent “Marrow” (Live on Letterman)

When I first saw Annie Clark on stage with the high-slung guitar all I could think was “please don’t Lilith Fair me to death with that thing.”

But then the clarinets came in and the loop and the dirty guitar, the haunting voice, the lyrics… One-by-one the layers of sonic awesome began to unravel, and then was the French film star style, the big kooky eyes… These things were all finding places to live in my brain when the crazy horn section kicked in with that ridiculous arrangement and it was over. She is amazing for sure and boy am I a dick.

Who is this woman? Why hasn’t anybody come to my cave to tell me about her? How long has she been this awesome? (Two years apparently, according to her bio, and she’s from “the flatlands” of FUCKING TEXAS?! No way…)

Anyway, I’m listening now. So please keep playing.

My amends…
